FarmHub

  • We interviewed 20 farmers in local villages around Puri(Orissa)

  • We discovered three things:

    • They had a variety of unheard problems 

    • They had no access to internet

    • They had first generation mobile phones covered by GSM network.

  • We designed a fully functional system operated through SMS that

    • would present relevant online information to farmers on demand

    • and provide them a  platform to be heard

Here's  How it Works

  1. Farmers type “weather” and send an SMS to @Farmhub[placeholder] and they are supplied with the next 10 days weather report.

  2. Farmers type “news” and send an SMS to @Farmhub[placeholder] and get retrieved farming news from  leading farming websites.

  3. Farmers could register their accounts, Post their grievances, get acknowledgement, replies etc. all via their simple text-based cell-phone SMS. The system classified grievances and directed them to right the right people who could be of best help, depending on location, profession etc.
